Research teams and team members from Nottingham BRC were among those who received accolades when Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) hailed its “research heroes” in June.

NUH’s Research Excellence Awards are nominated by patients, members of the public and NUH staff. The awards scheme was set up four years ago to celebrate the contributions that research makes to the care provided by NUH for patients across all its services.

This year, the overall winners included the following BRC representatives:
• The Nottingham BRC Hearing Theme, overall winners of the Research Partnership Award
• Dr Neil Guha, Professor of Hepatology, and BRC Gastrointestinal and Liver Disorders Theme Deputy Lead and
• The National Centre for Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) at NUH, which is one the BRC Respiratory Theme’s specialist research areas

The latter two winners received Directors' Awards from NUH Research & Innovation.

Professor Ian Hall, Director of the Nottingham BRC, and Professor Stephen Ryder, Co-Clinical Director of Research and Innovation and a senior research leader within the BRC’s Gastrointestinal and Liver Theme, presented the awards.

Speaking after the awards presentation in Nottingham, Professor Hall said:

“The last year has been a very strong one for clinical research in Nottingham, and it is important that we celebrate the contributions that staff make in so many ways to patients living with serious illnesses through their research.

“We know that patients who are treated at a ‘research active’ hospital fare better in terms of their outcomes, and we have ambitious plans for the coming years to continue advancing healthcare for the benefit of people living in Nottingham, the UK and far beyond through our discoveries.”
