Dr Joanne Stocks from our MSK Theme was among the volunteers who formed a community of professionals from 145 countries working to create COVID-19 guidelines for data sharing.

Dr Stocks, Assistant Professor in Sports and Exercise Medicine within the MSK Theme, worked as the co-moderator of the Research Data Alliance (RDA) community participation working group.

Data drives rapid response and informed decision-making during public health emergencies and there is a need for timely and accurate collection, reporting and sharing of data with the research community, public health practitioners, clinicians and policy makers.

Accurate and rapid availability of data will inform assessment of the severity, spread and impact of a pandemic to implement efficient and effective response strategies. The RDA guidelines are part of a larger European Community digital initiative in support of coronavirus research.

A news release about the Research Data Alliance's COVID-19 recommendations regarding data sharing can be read here.

The 5th (pre-final) release of the COVID-19 Recommendations and Guidelines is available via this link https://doi.org/10.15497/rda00046 This version is open for public comment until 8 June, 2020.
